A Black-owned juicing company named JIVE Juice has recently partnered with HEB in order to distribute their homemade health juice, the company announced in recently via their Facebook page.

The partnership with HEB will include JIVE Juice making its way into over 50 different stores across Houston and its surrounding areas.

Founder of the company, Tamala Austin, is a health coach who assists individuals, including children and seniors reach their health goals. Austin does group workshops, as well as individual consultations. She also hosts delicious luncheons.

This partnership isn’t the only time this company has made waves in the industry either. Back in 2018, when their product was picked up by Whole Foods, JIVE Juice became the first black-owned juice company to be carried by the store.

“It’s awesome to be able to pave the way and open the door for other Black people to be in this kind of space,” Austin said.

The company was also acknowledged by Governor Greg Abbott at the 2019 State of the State Address, where Tamala Austin was recognized for her work as a female entrepreneur.

Additionally, she was honored in 2016 by the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce, where they were welcomed with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Originally, JIVE Juice was a part-time juice delivery service run by Austin and her daughter Alexis. Now, as a product carried by both Whole Foods and HEB, the company distributes across Houston, as well as in some areas of Louisiana.

“We’ve been doing this since about 2013 out of our kitchen,” Austin recalled. “We didn’t want to do retail in the beginning, but the opportunity was there, and we were ready.”

When diagnosed with high blood pressure in 2013, Austin began her health journey. Eventually, this would lead her to researching and experimenting with juicing in hopes of finding a convenient means of getting the health benefits fruit and vegetables provide.

As a single mother, she also contemplated the age-old struggle: How can I get my child to eat more fruits and vegetables? This led Austin to do more research in order to create a juice that’s healthy for adults and one kids would enjoy.

“It helps with my health issues,” Austin explained, “and it helps my daughter get some good nutrients into her body.”

Austin also has hopes that the company will eventually be able to distribute nationwide with the momentum the company has gathered from working with HEB. Austin states that JIVE Juice is looking to be available in 100 stores by the end of the year.

“We want to make juicing fun,” Austin said. “Juicing doesn’t have to be boring, and it doesn't have to taste bad. It can be good, and good for you.”

More information on JIVE juice can be found via their website, as well as their Facebook page.
