In recent weeks there has been much talk about the backset of the 1,700 million euro investment in the Barcelona airport. However, there are also other great works that never seem to reach some provinces; forgotten works that are a necessity for important economic sectors in Spain, such as the fruit and vegetable sector, the country's second-biggest exporting sector, after the automobile sector.

Almeria demands more railway infrastructures to be able to continue exporting fruits and vegetables to the whole world. According to farmers, it's almost pointless to produce organic products if they are transported to Europe by truck, which is a very polluting transport. In addition, in three years France will restrict this method of transportation in its fight against climate change.

In 2005, the province was promised a connection by AVE to Murcia and there with the unfinished Mediterranean Corridor that connects with Europe. It is a corridor that is more developed in Valencia and Catalonia than in the south and that might not allow the passage of freight trains.
