After 30 years of research, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) presents new varieties that should boost dragon fruit production. In the Midwest, in the Federal District, the number of farmers investing in the crop has doubled in the last 3 years: from 22 to 55.
The researchers sought to develop varieties that self-pollinate, that is, that do not need help to bear fruit. In these varieties, pollination occurs naturally. As soon as the plant opens, the flower carries out the pollination and fertilization process. According to the researchers, all developed species are also more resistant to pests and diseases.
Embrapa has a list of these new varieties of dragon fruit and the contact details of nurseries registered to sell the seedlings.
