MANISTEE — Goody’s Juice & Java in downtown Manistee announced that it is temporarily closed after two employees experienced “some mild symptoms that might be indicative of COVID-19” over the weekend.
The business specializes in coffee, baked goods and sandwiches and has recently been utilizing curbside pickup and outdoor dining only.
The owners opted to not open the small dining area once state restrictions on dining in-house had been lifted during the pandemic.
Goody’s stated in a Facebook post Monday that it would be temporarily closed starting Tuesday. The business was closed Sunday and Monday due to regular business hour schedules.
“We do not have a positive confirmed test, but out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to remain closed until those employees can get tested,” the port reads in part. “The safety of our staff and customers is our top priority. We have followed Health Department and CDC guidelines since reopening for curbside service and outdoor dining, and will continue to take every precaution that we can.”
Rita Blamer, owner of Goody’s, said it felt like the responsible decision to err on the side of safety for staff and customers until the test results are obtained.
“We care about our customers,” Blamer said. “We felt it was responsible to tell people this through our post rather than have them show up there to find out we’re not open (Tuesday).”
Blamer said the responses from customers have been amazing as several noted that they were glad the business was being cautious.
She said they will wait to find out more information before making the next decisions on reopening.
