"Although the weather conditions and the uncertainty about consumer behavior have marked the beginning of the campaign, the truth is that the prospects are more than optimistic, especially after the second week of June, with a demand that is expected to be high and sustained throughout the season,” says Alberto Olivares, Product Manager for stone fruit at SanLucar.
The company, which has Germany or Austria among its main markets, is registering a high demand. This has led to the doubling of the sales of some of its most innovative formats, such as its well-known slider for apricots, nectarines or Paraguayo peaches; an innovative box in which the fruit is presented in a ready-to-eat format.
The company has a product range consisting of a careful selection of varieties, as well as the latest generation fruit trees. The goal is to obtain the best flavor and the brand's distinctive premium quality. Grown in harmony with people and nature, SanLucar's stone fruit also grows on the best farmland in Spain, Italy and Turkey, which makes it possible for the campaign to run from April to September.
Producers stand up to COVID-19
If there is something that is marking the current stone fruit campaign, it is the exceptional display of measures that producers have been forced to carry out, both in the field and in warehouses, to ensure the health and safety of their workers, but also the quality of the fruit.
The person in charge of stone fruit at SanLucar says that the sector has efficiently handled the impact of COVID-19, so that the health crisis won't affect the product supply.
"The entire sector is aware of the importance of its activity, and therefore has spared no effort to continue meeting the market demand, even under circumstances as exceptional as the ones we have at the moment," says Olivares.
