Some 20 years ago, the fuel 
cell was touted as the undisputed technology of the future. At the time, it was inconceivable to many that trucks without diesel engines would be rolling along our roads in the near future. In 2019, Hyundai Motor Company founded Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility AG as a joint venture with the Swiss H2 Energy company, which is the first provider to offer heavy-duty fuel cell commercial vehicles in production in Switzerland.
At Schwab-Guillod AG, innovation and sustainability have always had a high priority. This was continued in late 2020, with the investments in the first XCIENT Fuel Cell truck. These trucks are hydrogen-fueled, the hydrogen being converted into electrical energy via a fuel cell. This in turn is used to power a 350 kW electric motor.
The range of the first generation of XCIENT Fuel Cell vehicles is about 400 km. The only substance this truck emits is pure water. Through this pilot project, Schwab-Guillod AG is demonstrating how it will be possible in the future to transport goods from A to B cleanly, sustainably and efficiently.
