I understand, and we're not trying to stop that, but we want to be fairly compensated," Antoinette said.The roadwork is part of a project to expand the roads as new developments in the area are expected to bring in more traffic.For Tony Rodin, who's been working this farmland since he was young, this is a sad moment."I'm not narrow-minded. I mean, this road needs to be wide – it's dangerous, you know," Tony said.The fruit stand has been bringing fresh produce, Christmas trees, and pumpkins for decades. As it stands, the Rodins believe the new development would make access to the fruit stand difficult."If it takes whatever it's going to take and they don't give us a timeline how it's going to affect us in the meantime. It's going to be hard to get in. Are we going to be able to get in? Roads are going to be closed," Tony said.Having already received an offer from the county, the Rodins said neither the plan nor the offer is enough to safely proceed with their business."At this point, (the offer) does not begin to compensate us for our wells, our pipeline, the trees taken out, the property, the fruit stand – it's not even half of what it would be," Antoinette said.In a few weeks, the Rodins will place a counteroffer to Stanislaus County officials in hopes of moving their fruit stand farther back and staying in business."We are still working with the Rodin family and hope we can come to a positive solution," a statement from Stanislaus County read. "There is definitely a spirit of cooperation we want to get to with the Rodin Family. There is a process where we have to meet state standards and it is a negotiating process."
