Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura has asked Kenyans to remain positive amid the prevailing hard economic times saying the strategies the government is employing are bearing results.

In a statement at the end of a two-day retreat at the College of Insurance in Nairobi, Mwaura said the National Executive acknowledged that things are tough but assured that the Kenya Kwanza administration is firmly focused on delivering a better tomorrow for citizens.

The National Executive comprises the Cabinet, Principal Secretaries and senior government officials.

"We have had a candid, open and robust conversation on the country's current state of affairs and appreciated the difficult times that the people of Kenya are going through. We assure the country that the measures we are undertaking have stabilised the economy and are bearing fruit," Mwaura said after the end of the retreat.

The retreat was called to review the progress made in the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda since the inaugural retreat in Nanyuki early in the year.

Mwaura noted that the retreat appreciated the synergy and efficiency derived from the Whole Government Approach in delivering services, projects and programmes.

He said the national executive will build on the positives of the approach and improve on areas found by the public to be lacking in effective collaboration in delivering services, projects and programmes to Kenyans.

"As a caring and listening administration, we have received valuable feedback, appreciated existing gaps and available opportunities that will strengthen the implementation of the Bottom-Up Transformation Agenda," Mwaura noted.

The Government Spokesman said the National Executive reviewed objectives set during the Nanyuki retreat and appreciated that the majority have been achieved including the successful roll-out of the Hustler Fund to 21.5 million Kenyans, reduction of fertiliser prices from Sh7,500 to Sh2,500 recruitment of over 56,000 teachers and formulation of a new university funding model that ensures equality to all.

Mwara said the team also cited the rollout of the affordable housing programme as another success story saying it has led to the creation of 50,000 direct job opportunities and a similar number of indirect jobs.

"This will go a long way to provide decent and dignified housing for many Kenyans, especially in urban areas. While these achievements and many more are remarkable by themselves, much more remains to be done and many miles remain to be travelled," Mwaura said.
