CUSTER, Wash. — Thursday's high winds were bananas across western Washington, and nowhere more than Custer, Wash.
An overturned semi-truck filled with bananas on northbound I-5 near the Custer rest area closed the off-ramp at 8:10 a.m.
After the crash, the Washington State Department of Transportation posted on X alerting travelers to expect a lengthy closure since the semi-trailer needed to be unloaded before the tow could try to upright it.
However, when the semi-trailer was opened in the afternoon, onsite crews had an a-peeling surprise of bananas.
Crews helped transfer all the bananas to a new semi and worked on getting the semi-trailer upright.
