The port of Talcahuano, Chile, saw the first shipment of 9,210 pallets of fresh fruit sail on the Jorgen Reefer last week, which was carried out by its concessionaire (San Vicente Terminal International), marking a milestone that adds a new option for the Chilean national agriculture.

Guacolda Vargas, manager of Development and Sustainability of the port of Talcahuano told Portal Portuario, “this first shipment of refrigerated fruit confirms the multipurpose vocation of our SVTI concessionaire and, at the same time, demonstrates that the port of San Vicente is and attractive option for agricultural exporters from the south-central zone of Chile, but also those from the north zone.”

She said the shipment contained blueberries, grapes, pears and stone fruit, which were shipped to the port of Los Angeles. Mobilization of cargo was possible thanks to the work of the SAG/USDA Inspection Site – APHIS/ASOEX of Cabrero, which have been operating since 2017.

About 300 refrigerated trucks participated in the logistics process, which moved cargo from the regions of Coquimbo, Valparaiso, O’Higgins, Maule, and others, with the fresh fruit that was mobilized through the port entity.
