Tamron Galbraith hauled a cold press juicer and a caravan out of his garage and started a new business.

Cold pressed juice is made in a machine that extracts juice from produce and processes it without any production or heat, so ending up with a juice that has high nutritional value and retains a lot of flavour, he said.

Galbraith brought the machine to make juice for his father when he was ill with prostate cancer.

The family were looking at nutritional therapies, including juice therapy, as well as the usual medical ones, he said.

“So, the philosophy behind the therapy is that as you flood the body with nutrients, it displaces a lot of the toxic stuff in your body. And just keep doing that over quite a long period of time with a healthy diet, and then gradually, you start to heal the damage from the damage tissue from degenerative diseases.”

But by the time they started the therapy his father was “really on death's door.”

After his father passed away the juice press went in the garage, he said, but after he moved to Taranaki from the Wairarapa he saw an opportunity and opened the juice caravan two weeks ago.

“It’s exceeded my expectation. We’re already seeing return customers and people are bringing their kids.”

Galbraith works in digital marketing, so Jeanne Calen is on site making the juice in the caravan.

The caravan was built in Taranaki in 1975. It was later built up higher and then Galbraith bought it and extended the height further, so he wouldn’t hit his head while he travelled around the country and lived in it for a while, he said.

Smoothies will be added to the menu soon, including smoothie popsicles for children, once he’s perfected the recipes. And, as he’s had requests for ginger, he plans to infuse ginger into ice made with water from Pure One, so people can get a shot of ginger. He may do the same with turmeric.

“People incorporate cold pressed juice in their daily routine just to maintain their health.”
