"Frozen fruit is getting increasingly popular in supermarkets all over the world. The year that is coming to an end has been affected by the pandemic - we expected a strong growth, while levels will be similar to the past years, which is not too bad considering the current situation," report Carlo Trevisan and Nicola Borgatti from the Frozen division at Mazzoni Group.

There has been a huge drop in the H&R sector, ice-cream parlors and pastry shops included, compensated by the increasing demand from the processing industry and supermarkets. Last year, the division sold 13 tons of product, over 20% of which processed by its own facility.
"There is a lot of interest from abroad, e.g. from France, especially for frozen fruit bags for supermarkets. We renewed our lines for this segment and the current products are: mixed berries, strawberries, raspberries and tropical mix, all organic. Our traditional products are: tropical mix, rhubarb and pomegranate arils."
To obtain high-quality frozen fruit, varieties suitable to be frozen are needed, with a high dry-matter content, suitable for cutting and with a high Brix level.
"We are increasingly focusing on high-level products that lead to better margins. What is more, in 2021, we will launch a new range of pulps for top-quality jams."
