As airlines continue to struggle, they’re coming up with ways to sell… well… anything to keep money rolling in.
Finnair is no exception, this time selling Blueberry Juice.

The airline making its signature blueberry juice drink to available to buy in supermarkets across Finland. It will be sold at a selection of over 300 K-group grocery stores in Finland from December.
Finnair introduced blueberry juice as its signature drink in 2014. Up until the pandemic, it managed to serve over one million litres a year onboard.
The move to sell blueberry juice follows the sale of onboard menu items in supermarkets.
Finnair’s branded blueberry juice drink is produced in Turku on the southwest coast of Finland, Eckes-Granini.

“Blueberry juice has been a distinctive part of the Finnair customer experience and it is loved by many of our customers.”
“We wanted to offer this delicious drink, which has become a firm favourite of the Finnair in-flight experience to our customers who have a taste for travel and want to enjoy Finnair from the comfort of their own homes.”
Saving actual jobs
With the one million litres of juice, trickling down to nothing in current times, it seems that a move like this can help preserve jobs (or at least release staff from furlough and back to work).
That means income – both for the factory workers and For Finnair. In these times, every penny will count.
For those who miss flying, it’s a chance to grab a bit of the passenger experience in the home.
As airlines turn to their stocks and items of low value, there will be some that are looking carefully at what they can offer to the passenger and what else can be monetised.
