’Juice’ adds another 300 to well-traveled bowling career - lehighvalleylive.com

buahkamp.blogspot.com

One thing you can never call Jackie “Juice” Ossou is a homer. If there’s a career that screams well-traveled, it’s hers. She’s tossed 300s in places like Jib Lanes, AMF Van Wyck Lanes, Bowl 360, City Line Lanes and many others.

Now, Ossou can add Skylanes in East Stroudsburg to the list, giving her 31 career perfect games. In the process, she scored her second career 800 and first since her 816 at AMF Garden City Lanes back in 2011.

“I’m pretty happy with this because it wasn’t all that long ago (that) I was going to quit,” said the 50-year-old following her 215-300-290--805 in the Phoenix League. “Fortunately, a good friend told me she wasn’t going let me quit.”

Ossou is still in recovery mode from hip surgery that forced her to stop back in 2016. She said she bowled through a lot of pain but was still competing at too high of a level to stop. But she made the call and what seemed to be a successful comeback quickly turned into a three-year slump.

“My first night back after the surgery I shot my 30th 300 game,” she said. “I thought I had made the right choice in getting the surgery, but it went downhill. That’s why I wanted to quit.”

It took some time to retool her game but Ossou says it’s coming around and now it’s time to get back to focusing on her mental game.

“I opened with 215 and I changed balls in the 10th frame and told myself to follow through. The 300 game I really have to say I wasn’t nervous. I think what made it better (is that) there weren’t a lot of spectators around. But, no, the last couple of balls I didn’t have the spaghetti legs at all,” she said. “I made three good shots.”

Ossou called her first frame shot to open Game 3 a brain-freeze moment. With back-to back-300s off the table, she took the approach of one frame at a time and before she knew the game and string had stretched to the 10th box.

“I just wanted to keep going and not look at my score. I struck out and then I realized, ‘Oh, I shot 800?’”

Her 805 ties her with Krista Sandt for the season’s top series for the women as the area ladies continue to tear up lanes with big numbers. Ossou is averaging 219 at Skylanes, while also competing at Linden Lanes and Jersey Lanes in Union County, New Jersey.

And 4 make 59

Ossou wasn’t alone shooting 300 as the area count crawled to 59.

Bob Palulis Sr. pretty much owns Jordan Lanes in Allentown. He’s amassed a career’s worth of 300s and 800s and last week added another notch with a 300-758 in the Lounge Lizard League.

Rob Laubach joined the Bar-Don 800 League this season and nearly shot his league’s namesake. Following games of 259 and 238, Laubach finished off with a perfect game for a 797 set. He’s averaging an eye-popping 234 and the 300 marks his first since February 2013.

Back in Allentown, Bill Holler Jr. treated his mates in the Thursday Night United Church League with a dozen straight on his way to a 725.

The top series of the week belongs to Rocco Granese. Bowling out of Earl Bowl in Earlington, Granese rocked the U.S. Gauge League with an 815 on games of 268-280-267. It’s Grenese’s third career reported 800 and first since April 2017.

Burger tops with 766

There have been eight 700s from the boys and eight 600s for the girls over the past two weeks.

Parker Laubach continues to rack up big numbers and his latest couple of matches in the Lehigh Valley Junior Traveling League netted him 722 and 747, pushing his average to 243. He also added a 719 at Town & Country.

The traveling circuit also produced the area’s new No. 1 series for the boys as Aidan Burger rattled off games of 267-244-255 for 766.

Jenna Garman bowls with Laubach on the road and she tacked on a 683. Kayla Lowin (601), Alyssa Rieger (611) and Kieona Strauss (622) each topped 600 in the traveling league. Garman also picked up a pair of 600s at Town & Country with 648 and 631.

Last week it was Matthew Comerro eclipsing 700 at Oakwood thanks to a 708. This week, Jackson Bauer joined Comerro with 713.

A couple of Jordan juniors surpassed 700 led by Bradley Pickens, who carded 719 on games of 205-246-268. Christian Meckes rallied for a final game 247 for 703. Dezlyn Brand led the girls at the Allentown center with 610.

Megan Starck parlayed a 266 single en route to a 618 set at Oakwood.
