Here's the buzz: Nékter Juice Bar opened its first location in San Antonio. The Southern California-based chain of açaí and juice bars is fresh to the city. The location opened in Alamo Heights in early June.
The juice bar, which prides itself on being the first company to introduce açaí bowls as a full-menu category, replaces San Antonio's sole TCBY location.
While the frozen treats are out, Nékter is offering an array of healthy snacks that are just as gum-chilling.

Madalyn Mendoza, MySA.comUnlike local açaí bowl spots I've visited, such as Juice Joint and Rise Up, customizing or building your snack is a little trickier. Rather than a buidable, the juice bar offers four handcrafted bowls and three functional bowls (protein-focused, immunity, and superfood). Each blend is made fresh, with cashew milk, so I was still able to customize my Açaí Banana Berry and asked for no blueberry, add green apple on top. I also added almond butter for an extra protein boost.

Madalyn Mendoza, MySA.comThe 16-ounce, ice cold serving is generous with the perfect fruit to blend ratio. The granola was more flaky than crunchy, but added a nice consistency to the mix. The açaí blend was lighter in color than most bowls I've tried, but was thick enough to keep each layer distinguished. All of the fruit in my bowl -- strawberries, banana, and apples, were ripe and fresh. My order had two bowls, both of which were ready in about 10 minutes.
Nékter's staff was friendly and ready to explain the menu and my add-on and substitute choices in a way that made it seem as if I was still able to customize my bowl with my favorite fruit.

Madalyn Mendoza, MySA.comEach bowl is $9.75 before add-ons, like the almond butter, which was a $1. Nékter also offers seven "superfood smoothies
and four functional smoothies which are packed with up to 40 grams of protein. Fresh juices, like a "Toxin Flush" and "Green Apple Detox" are also available.
Nékter is offering a free bowl, juice, or smoothie for new rewrds members who download the company's app.
You can find the new San Antonio juice bar at 5920 Broadway. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
