BROOKLYN, Ohio -- Healthy folks looking for another option at Ridge Park Square will be happy to learn that Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar is taking over the former Starbucks location.
Twinsburg resident Elaine Poland -- who owns the Brooklyn Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar location, as well as franchises in Solon and Parma -- said she’s been eyeing the busy area for the past few years as she exits I-480 at Ridge Road when headed to her Shoppes at Parma store.
“Brooklyn has a bajillion people who drive through there every day and it’s a great location,” Poland said. “I get a lot of people from the Brooklyn area who come into my Parma location and say, ‘Oh, I wish you guys were closer to me.’”
That’s why when the nearly 1,600-square-foot space facing Ridge Road became available she jumped at the chance to add her third location, which is tentatively scheduled to open in mid-February.
“I wanted something with visibility from the road and -- quite frankly -- would cost me less to build out than my last two stores where I had to put the heat, electric and plumbing,” Poland said.
“This location was an opportunity to do it with actually less money invested because it already has electric and plumbing.”
Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar, which started 15 years ago in Kent, provide healthy smoothies, bowls and juices.
“It seems to be a product that both little kids and older people like,” Poland said. “It’s not necessarily like a super-fancy drink from Starbucks -- not that I don’t love Starbucks -- but it only attracts a certain crowd.
“I get plenty of older people coming in. My dad is 95 years old and he’s a loyal Pulp fan. It just appeals to a wide amount of people, and it’s at a great price point.”
The owner said she speaks from experience. It wasn’t until one of her daughters suggested she open a Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar that she frequented the Macedonia location and quickly was on board.
“I probably looked for 25 years for something to open, and I just couldn’t figure out exactly what I wanted,” Poland said. “Pulp is a pleasant surprise. You walk in and it has a good upbeat vibe to it with music playing. It’s light, bright and the staff are friendly and outgoing.
“We also give back a lot to the community with food drives. It’s just a little mom-and-pop small business. Plus, we have great smoothies that are healthy.”
Someone looking forward to Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar’s arrival in Brooklyn is Mayor Katie Gallagher.
“It’s always exciting to see new stores moving to Brooklyn, especially since we don’t have a smoothie place here already,” Gallagher said.
“I’ve never been to a Pulp Juice and Smoothie Bar, but I looked up the menu and their wraps look delicious. My kids love smoothies, so we will definitely be stopping for a treat.”
