MICHAEL Strahan stays in great shape at 52 thanks to a healthy diet packed with fruits and vegetables.

But the Pro Football Hall of Famer has revealed he also treats himself to cookies and ice cream on cheat days.

Strahan has maintained his muscular frame from his NFL days due to his love of healthy foods such as bananas, avocados, broccoli, strawberries, and blueberries.

The former New York Giants star also keeps his fridge full of items such as turkey, quinoa, and yogurt, and granola.

But Strahan says he will eat sweet treats every now and then.

"Trust me, I like a cookie, I get ice cream," Strahan told Men's Health.

"I like that stuff too, it's not like this [healthy food] all the time. 

"But it's like this most of the time...got to balance your life."

One food that Strahan will never eat is, though, is liver.

"Not happening," he said.

Strahan has a particular taste in drinks, including Hallstein Water which he describes as heaven.

The Good Morning America host is also fond of Gorgie energy drinks and coconut water.

He also drinks a protein shake every morning, and eats eggs and turkey sausage before every workout.

Strahan has come a long way from the days he used to gorge on fast food as a pre-game meal during his time in the NFL.

"I used to actually stop at fast food restaurants and eat before I got to the stadium," he said.

"That was my pre-game meal."

As the defensive end got older, he completely transformed his diet which left him feeling more explosive on the field.

"I went from eating all that stuff to eating light," Strahan added.

"I'd eat eggs, egg whites, toast, a little bacon....

"A little bit healthier, I'd feel a little lighter, I felt a little more explosive, and I felt more focused.

"My diet helped me with my performance and I relied on that later in my career and I felt magnificent."

Strahan says he feels better now at 52 years old than he did at 25.
